Gundog trainers make good use of whistles.
They really help when out in the field, as the noise carries and can be heard over the background volume of the shoot.
Even in the wind and rain, your dog can hear and respond to your signal.
It is also consistent, so unlike your voice, the pitch never changes. Eliminating the possibility of confusion over mixed signals.
There are lots of choices when it comes to dog whistles, but the clear favourite of most gundog trainers are the Acme whistles.
They come in specific pitches, so that even if you need to replace one it will sound exactly the same.
