Our dogs work hard for us out in the shooting field.
Whereas we have layers of wax-coated jackets and wooly jumpers to keep us warm and dry, they only have their own fur coats.
It’s important therefore to make sure that they are kept as comfortable as possible after a day’s work, and are properly physically prepared before they begin too!
Practical Coats for Working Dogs
There are a couple of great options for coats for gundogs now available, which can help us do just this:
Equafleece Hotterdog Jumper
Hotterdog fleece jumpers might look a bit funny, but they serve two excellent purposes.
They can help to warm your dog up before he starts working. Just pop your dog in the jumper for a while before you begin, and their muscles will be gently warmed up.
Remember to take it off whilst he works, so he doesn’t overheat.
Then at the end of a cold day, put him back in his jumper and it will help keep your dog nice and warm on the long journey home from a day’s shooting.

Dogs & Co Toweling Coat
The toweling coat is brilliant for use on rainy days.
Simply rub your dog dry with a towel as normal, then pop him into his dry toweling coat.
It attaches with adjustable velcro fixings at the neck and stomach.
Comprised of two layers of toweling, it works to allow moisture to escape quickly and help your dog dry off.
This non-padded design is also more likely to prevent overheating.
